This STATE FAIR was 20th Century-Fox's third screen version of Phil Stong's novel. It was originally conceived in 1933 as a vehicle for the studio's reigning comedian Will Rogers and favorite ingenue Janet Gaynor, proving a winner with audiences and garnering a Best Picture Oscar nomination. The 1945 remake, which added songs by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, was equally successful at t...

James Kastberg Memoriam

My dear friend of 50 years, James Kastberg passed on June 6th. James was a Broadway Baby like me and he loved his city of Chicago as much as the music of Kander & Ebb. Even after losing both of his legs he found a way to continue his attending any musical nearby. We will miss him but I know he is singing along somewhere. If you knew James, please feel free to leave a message.

Mrs. Annie Johnson **Tried her BEST** to tell the Truth and to Raise Sarah Jane with Dignity and Self-Respect. Those two things were in Short Supply back in those days, and even STILL today. Sadly, not many People have the Courage to Stop being Molded by the Madness and Racism of this WorLd. It takes Strength, DIVINE Strength from the One True God to do so 🙏🏽🦋💐🌹💕❤️

I love Angela Landsbury and great to see her perform a song from Throughly Modern Mille, but I do have to say that Julie Andrews really made it hers in the film. I would love to see a new production of this But who could fll those shoes, I don't know.

The first time I ever saw this movie was in 1968.. I was 6 at the time, and my Mother, a beautiful blonde actress, and entertainer, had passed away only months before. Watching with my older teenage Sister at the end, my other Sister, one year older than I were brought to tears, crying 'Why did Mama have to die'..?. I have never forgotten it

I first saw this movie when I was in the 8th grade. My grandmother wanted Me to see it. It was just as powerful then as it is now. It just made Me love & cherish My mother even more. This movie brings tears to my eyes especially when Ms. Mahalia Jackson sings "Sooner We'll Be Done With The Troubles of The World". Every child should see this movie and honor the love from their mother while she's still here.❤

I think it was at this moment that Scarlett realized that Melanie was the best friend she ever had. I mean think about it, even when Scarlett was a complete jerk to her Melanie never judged her or condemned her. She loved Scarlett in spite of all her faults and even defended her. Melanie was one of those rare people who could love a person unconditionally for who they were even if they never changed or showed the same love back to her.

That is the reason they don’t make commercials like that anymore. People are entertained by it but forget the product being advertised. I am somewhat surprised that it was not effective since she danced on top of the can featuring the name of the soup. They also said the name The Great American Soup several times in the commercial.

Just discovered this in 2024 as I am watching Turner classic movies channel in the film. Rome Adventure came on. This is the most beautiful Italian song I've ever heard! (I like Andrea Bocelli, I like Pavarotti sometimes, and I even love Aretha Franklin's version of Nessun Dorma but nothing tops this song. It is beautiful!) ❤
